damn spam

god I get a lot of spam. most of it has to do with porn - and really graphic, violent porn at that. just complainin’. also, my site gets cruised by a lot of pervies. I’m sure they’re not pleased with what they find here!
my email is getting filled by spam too, mostly from African countries where people are once again trying that bank scam - you know, where their relative has passed away and they can’t get the funds so they want you to give them your banking information so they can transfer it to you and then they’ll give you half. Now I get these in multiple languages. and for some reason, my spamulator doesn’t catch them like it does all the other spam I get.
and of course, the ones from that big famous online auction site, where people make fake sites to make them look like the real ones and scam your info when you go and enter it in. I get those everyday.
What did I do to get so much spam?
why don’t the spam people understand that spam makes people mad, and does not make them want to buy your product/send you their banking info? stupid spam people.
Akismet, seriously. Since I started using it for my blog I only get the occasional spam once every few weeks.
I already do use Akismet - so far, it has caught 148 spam comments! but still, I get more… and the spammers are getting sneakier!
I think I get stuck with so much spam because of the types of things I write about.
I getway too much of it, too in my e-mail & I never open it! so i don’t know why they bother. Some of the googles I get on my blog are pretty funny, though. “tart beaver” was one recently that cracked me up. What the heck they were looking for, I have no idea. what a bunch of weirdos out there.
Maybe you should look into WP Hash Cash then…was gonna refer you to Captcha!, which seems to be used frequently, until I discovered the guy who invented Captcha is using Hash Cash - check it out! At the very least it should take care of the most annoying spam-bot jerks.
Someone, somewhere, must be actually buying things through comment spam…we should hunt them down and knock some sense out of them, they’d be easier to catch than the actual spammers themselves
a lot of people fall for the bank scam. That’s why it lives on. Guillible people and older folks, mostly.
I got a new version of it the other day, a very clever one… they’re gonna get a lot of people with it, I know it. But I think it’s pretty suspicious any time I win a contest I didn’t enter
Alot of the spam emails, they know it pisses you off. BUT they plant crap on your computer when you open it, and many get paid for every link that get’s clicked in their emails. So it’s worth it to them.
Well, if one person out of a milion falls for the spam, that’s still worth a lot I guess.
For my e-mail, I use Thunderbird, which uses a pretty good spam blocker (able to learn too). For my blog, I just added a simple question in the comment form. Since then, I haven’t received a single spam comment.
My university email marks spam as spam… but won’t let me filter it. I do not know why. I have also recently started getting spam advertising particular stocks…..
I’d like to point out that since I wrote this post complaining about spam, I have received exactly ONE spam comment. maybe karma is on my side….

I haven’t had much trouble with spam comments yet, thank goodness.
I don’t get spams…why ?
I used to block all spam, but then a few friends got blocked too. So I leave it wide open. I just delete the mail as I go down the list. I feel so gosh darn popular getting so much mail every day! (There’s always a bright side, dammit!)
I hope pervs check out my site (and yours). They might actually learn something real about women for a change.

WordPress Trackback Spam!!!
I have installed plugins that prevent comment spams, but this won't prevent trackback to be blocked. I've been spam by many
MFA websites that most probably is from the same network with trackback, but they are not linking me on their website. May I
know how do they do it and how do I stop it? Without disabling trackback?

sorry Gael - I have no idea! This isn’t a problem I’ve had so far. Hopefully I won’t have it anytime soon, either!
