Literally, everyone should go and see this movie. right now.
Across the Universe is brilliant, gorgeous, and not quite like anything else I’ve seen.
Forget that it’s a musical. It’s a Beatles musical.
Go! what are you still doing here?

You know, I’ve been waiting for this movie to come out for months now…and now that it’s apparently expanded into ‘theatres everywhere,’ it has apparently ignored the very existence of a little town called Cleveland, Ohio. I would LOVE to be seeing this movie right now, but apparently whoever decided on its distribution did not wish for people living in my city or its surrounding areas to view it.
“Forget that it’s a musical.”
Why? Cos musicals automatically suck?? Most of them are awesome.
“It’s a Beatles musical.”
Well if anything could cause a musical to suck, it’s Beatles music.
I will certainly be on the lookout for it. It looks great.
Genevieve – sorry to hear that! I hope it comes your way soon.
femsoc – SACRILEGE!
david -it’s fabulous. go right now.
LOL…forgive me; I’m a bit of a fascist when it comes to good music.
You might call me a vegetarian of music.
Thinking Girl–
I know, it sucks. I was planning to see it with one of my friends until I realized…oh wait, it’s not even playing around here.
So when is Same Song: The Digital Underground Musical coming out? That one I’d pay to see.
My inner critic gives that movie 6/10. It’s very focused on aesthetics and imagery, and doesn’t have that much of a detailed story. (I like detailed stories.) It felt like a 2 hour music video, which, I guess, it sort of was.
Oh, and they just HAD to name the main characters “Jude” and “Lucy” just for the obvious connection to two famous Beatles songs. That’s not clever, it’s trite.
I’ll be honest with you, I never grew up listening to the Beatles, in fact the only time I’ve heard them was when I was with my dormmate, John or when I’m listening to Danger Mouse’s Grey Album. So after hanging out and partying with all my friends from college, my buddies, Ulysses ans Evelyn (half-drunk, I think I was the soberest one there) decided to watch the movie in like 4 in the morning. After forcibly staying up and watching, knowing that I got to pack up and leave later that day, I have to say that the movie is indeed beautiful in how they executed the music with the plot.
